“Emerald by day, ruby by night”.

Alexandrite

Alexandrite was discovered in 1830 by miners in the Ural Mountains of Russia; and now is also found in Brazil, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. This gorgeous stone is a rare variety of the mineral chrysoberyl, and it changes color in different lighting. What makes Alexandrite unique is the presence of titanium and iron, as well as chromium, as significant impurities. In the daylight, and fluorescent lighting alexandrite is a vivid green to bluish green, and a deep red to purplish red in incandescent lighting. This is where the phrase “emerald by day, ruby by night” came from. Alexandrite was named after the Emperor Alexander II, due to it resembling the colors of Imperial Russia’s national military. The color change of this stone is a reminder that life is filled with changes and challenges, and that life is not always what it seems to be. It’s a stone of prosperity, luck and longevity. It will balance your thoughts and emotions, as well as pacify your soul to encourage spiritual growth.
